How do I join?
Interested in joining WisLUG? Here are answers to some of the most common questions new and potential members usually have.
What’s a “WisLUG” anyway?
WisLUG stands for the Wisconsin LEGO® Users Group. We are an adult-oriented fan community formally recognized by The LEGO Group. WisLUG is one of many recognized LUG communities around the world and one of two in Wisconsin.
What exactly do you do?
Our primary mission is to bring together Adult Fans of LEGO®, also known as AFOLs, to share their love of the hobby. WisLUG is a space to talk about collecting, deal hunting, current builds, LEGO® news, techniques, and nearly anything else related to the hobby.

How do I become a member?
Participate. You are considered a member after attending three in-person LUG meetings over a 12-month period.
Membership grants access to the private sections of our Discord server and other opportunities that may be available throughout the year.

Can kids join?
WisLUG allows youth ages 13 and older to become Teen Fan of LEGO® members, also known as TFOL members.
- TFOL members must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at LUG meetings until they are at least 16.
- Youth under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all public displays.
- Meeting activities and public displays are generally limited to those over age 13.
Is there a membership fee?
Other than the cost of buying your own LEGO®, WisLUG does not have annual dues just to be a member. Some activities, travel, lodging, events, and fan conventions may have associated costs.
What is a set or parts draft?
A set draft is where the LUG opens multiple new copies of the same set and sorts all elements by color and type. Participating members draw a random number for pick order. When your number is called, you choose all elements of a single type, or a minifigure, from the sorted parts. Members either supply their own copy of the set or participate through a buy-in.
How do I display at an event?
Members have access to an internal system that allows them to request display space. They enter a request into a form, and the member coordinating the event adds it to the layout plan for the show.
You can still display if you are just joining, but we would like to see your work in person first to make sure it is family-friendly. Non-members will usually work directly with the show coordinator if they do not yet have access to internal Discord channels.
All public displays must be family-friendly and follow the WisLUG Code of Conduct, which prohibits profane, sexual, politically controversial, or discriminatory content in builds shown to the public.
Does everything have to be original?
We ask that the majority of displays members bring to events be original LEGO® creations, commonly called My Own Creations, or MOCs.
Members may sometimes use official sets as part of a larger build, such as adding vehicles to a street scene or placing a Star Wars ship in a custom hangar.
What if I only like building sets?
That is fine. Many WisLUG members are less interested in the MOC side of the hobby, and there is still plenty for them to enjoy. If you have a set you built and want to talk about it with visitors at an event, or you simply want to hang out with other LEGO® fans, you are welcome to be there with us.
How do I find out more?
Attend a meeting and talk to one of the chapter coordinators or the LUG Ambassador. They can collect your contact information, provide access to the public section of our Discord, and help track your attendance as you work toward becoming a full member.
